Description
They might be called micronutrients, but they have a huge impact on your well-being! But what are they exactly and why do we need them? In this guide, we’ll tell you everything you need to know about micronutrients!
What are micronutrients?
Micronutrients are essential nutrients that your body needs in relatively small amounts (as opposed to macronutrients). However, this doesn’t mean that you should overlook them! Quite the opposite, actually, as they play a key role in your well-being. This is because they are needed to ensure healthy development and growth, and perform a range of functions in the body.
Micronutrients are commonly referred to as vitamins and minerals. With the exception of vitamin D, your body cannot produce micronutrients, which is why it is essential to ensure that your diet covers all of your needs.
There are four main types of micronutrients:
Water-soluble vitamins: They include vitamin C and B vitamins. These vitamins dissolve in water and cannot be stored by your body, which means you need a daily supply. Any excess water-soluble vitamins are flushed out of your body in the form of urine.
Fat-soluble vitamins: They include vitamins A, D, E and K. As suggested by their name, fat-soluble vitamins dissolve in fat. This makes them easier for your body to store, unlike water-soluble vitamins.
Macrominerals: These are essential nutrients that your body needs in relatively large amounts. They include calcium, magnesium, sodium, phosphorus and potassium.
Microminerals: As opposed to macrominerals, these nutrients are only needed in trace amounts. They include iron, manganese, copper, zinc, iodine, and selenium.
Now that we have an overview of what micronutrients are, let’s find out more about what they can do for you, and where you can find them.
Our tiny superheroes and where to find them: Vitamins & Minerals
Vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients that cover a whole range of functions within your body. Together, they help maintain good bone health, support wound healing and strengthen your immune system. What would we do without them, right?!
For human beings, there are 13 essential vitamins: 4 of them are fat-soluble (A, D, E, and K), and the other 9 are water-soluble (the 8 B vitamins and vitamin C). As for minerals, our body needs 16 essential ones. You should be able to source all of your vitamins & minerals from your food, as long as your diet is well-balanced and rich in fruits and vegetables. But when you need a little help, vitamin and mineral supplements are there to assist! Let’s do a quick round-up of what some of these vitamins and minerals can do for you:
Vitamin D
Vitamin D not only helps you maintain healthy bones and teeth, it also supports the normal function of your muscles and immune system. For the lucky ones out there that can enjoy sunny days all year round, sunbathing on a deck chair, your vitamin D needs are most likely covered. That’s right, your body naturally produces vitamin D when your skin is exposed to sunlight! But during months when there isn’t as much sunlight, or if you live somewhere where the sun doesn’t shine much (tough luck), you can boost your vitamin D intake by eating fortified foods (such as some breakfast cereals), oily fish, eggs, or by supplementing your diet. Our Vitamin D3 supplement covers your daily needs with just one capsule a day, preferably taken after or during a meal.
Vitamin C
If you’ve been feeling a bit tired lately, vitamin C could help! This vitamin contributes to the reduction of tiredness and fatigue, and ensures the good function of skin, gums, bones, blood vessels and more. You can find vitamin C in a range of fruits, vegetables and herbs, including blackcurrants, parsley, bell peppers, kale and more. But if you feel like you need a little help to cover your daily intake, you can go for our Vitamin C supplement. With just one tablet a day, preferably after or during your meal, you’ll be covered and ready to go!
Magnesium
Magnesium plays a lot of important roles in your body! It’s essential to your physical health, as it contributes to normal muscle function, normal protein synthesis and normal energy metabolism. That’s what all sports enthusiasts want, right? But not only that, it’s also really important for your brain, as it regulates the normal function of the nervous system. You can find magnesium in nuts and seeds (sesame, cumin, fennel, Brazil nuts, almonds etc.), whole grains (quinoa, wheat bran, …), and some seaweed (sea lettuce, wakame, etc.). And if you need to, you can choose a supplement like our Magnesium Citrate to ensure your daily needs are covered. Magnesium Citrate is one of the most bioavailable form of magnesium, which means your body can absorb it easily. And you just need two capsules a day, taken with a meal, to cover your daily needs!
Multivitamins: the all-in-one wellness support
No need to juggle with a lot of pills, capsules and tablets anymore! Our Multivitamins tablets contain a complex of 12 vitamins (A, D, E, K, C, B1, B2, B3, B5, B6, B8 and B12) and 10 minerals (calcium, magnesium, chromium, iron, iodine, copper, manganese, molybdene, selenium and zinc) to support your well-being in an easy and convenient way, every day. With just one tablet a day, you are good for the day. Easy as ABC, right?
Vitamins and minerals are essential nutrients that cover a whole range of functions within your body. Together, they help maintain good bone health, support wound healing and strengthen your immune system. What would we do without them, right?!
To sum it up…
Both micronutrients and macronutrients play important roles when it comes to your well-being. Vitamins and minerals are key to our health, as they support a range of functions and processes in our bodies. It is therefore essential to ensure that your diet can cover your daily needs, and that’s where an adequate vitamin or mineral supplement can come in handy! And remember that there are other important aspects to your well-being too, such as having good sleeping habits and exercising regularly. We wish you the best on your wellness journey!
